Ahoy there!

Tuesday morning and we popped in to see the Mayor of Quincy and visit Peacefield - the home of the Adams Family (not the television series folks but the former Presidents!).

We then had another presentation in Quincy in the presence of the District Governor, which unfortunately led to another rendition of Flower of Scotland!  It was however a mistake to tell Caryn that we wouldnt do it without a whisky or two... because that is exactly what we got beforehand as encouragement!!  I think most of us drank it all despite the fact it was a joke!  We have again determined that this is the last time we are going to sing/ slaughter this song!

Highlight of the day was cruising with Rich on his boat and Erin certainly found her sea legs - propped up at the front of the boat and reminding us all of Kate Winslet in Titanic!

Cheers! Boston

On Monday we were collected by Sharon Rotary and made our way to the Boston State House.  Joanne and Marlene managed to beat President Steve to the parking lot which caused them some amusement.  Although we arent really sure whether the problem is with his tomtom or with his tomtom translation skills! The State House was beautiful and we received an excellent tour with some added extras including being announced on the floor to the House of Representatives and meeting a number of State Senators which means we will now be in the records and in history forever!  If we find the web link we will share it - although being announced as Louis Napier didnt go down too well with one of the team!

Cheers! for lunch was great with some goodies bought by all, including a dashing poncho for each of us bought by president Steve - thank you - we think!  We promise that if there is an opportunity to wear it we will take a photo to share with you all!

Where else after lunch but straight to a television studio, not CNN but Sharon Community television, to record an interview about our GSE. We were hoping for hair and make up in the green room but alas not to be but we did get a whisky for our trouble.  And after a wet afternoon Louise and Erin were going for the glamorous Dallas look, so the whisky at least helped us forget about what was sitting on our heads!

One of the highlights of the day was walking by the lake with a cute, lovely eyed and enthusiastic male - Sam the dog who belonged to Joanne; lucky Joanne!

Our first presentation of the trip was to Sharon Rotary where we were made to feel so welcome, even our rendition of 'Flower of Scotland' didn't scare them away.  But we think we would need a couple more drams to make us happier about singing it ... and it certainly wouldnt have a negative affect on the musical quality!  We have determined this is the last time we are going to sing!

Easter Sunday

After arriving safely we were greeted at the airport by Caryn, our GSE Coordinator, Phil, one of our hosts and Caryn's grand daughter Chasey and her best friend Emma with colourful handmade welcome banners in tow.

At Caryn's house we had our fifth meal of the day (dont judge us too harshly we were up at 3am!) and met up with our host families.  After being made to feel so welcome we had a wonderful first day with our new 'families'.  We all had an 'early' night (9.30/2.30am depending on your time zone!) and some of us even managed to squeeze in a sixth meal, while others in the team (who will remain anonymous) slept for 13 hours.....

Easter morning and the Easter Bunny arrived and with it the sun!  Two lucky individuals even found Easter baskets waiting for them on the breakfast table, whilst Ian and Wendy managed to walk off one of their meals from the day before!  Back at Caryn's house an Easter egg hunt ensued with Ian the first of the team, and possibly the first of the 'hunters', to find all of his eggs - well done that man!  Although we think we should have been a little quicker however, given that everyone else participating was under 12!

After another lovely meal at Caryn's house we attempted to walk off the homemade cookies with a visit to Caryn's clothes store where we had a lovely time buying gifts, and some of us even managed to purchase gifts for others!

Tomorrow looks to be another fun day - we will keep you posted!

Setting Off

Hello everyone! Welcome to the GSE D1010 to Rhode Island Blog Spot!  We promise to keep you up to date as often as we can with what we are up to whilst we are away - although we also promise to look like we arent enjoying ourselves too much for all those left at work!

We leave tomorrow on the first leg of our trip - but dont expect any updates until Monday as a 3am wake up and a 6am flight in the morning in to a different time zone probably wont be conducive to any literary blogging genius.  Although as a warning you shouldnt expect that anyway!

Right... less talking, more packing needed!!
